New body of work for 2013.
My recent commissions have been for the R.S.P.B..and
also D.F.AS. Coincidentally, both wanted bird paintings. It was a natural progression to use some of my source material
in my further studio practice.
My practice is concerned
with man’s relationship with the natural world. Inspired by the realistic descriptions of trench warfare in the novel
‘Birdsong’ by Sebastian Faulks, I am interested in the idea of birdsong being the only link to normality for the
soldiers fighting on either side in the First world war. This image of the bird in my painting is symbolic of the spirit
of man which remains constant, despite hardship and trauma.
I wanted to capture the spirit of this in these paintings.
